MoMA’s Department of Learning and Engagement in collaboration with New York City Art Teachers Association/United Federation of Teachers (NYCATA/UFT) hosts the NYC DOE Teacher Art Show, The Art of the Educator.
OPEN CALL ANNOUNCEMENT AND GUIDELINES
OVERVIEW
The exhibition will take place at The Museum of Modern Art in the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54th Street, New York City, NY 10019, and on view to the public March 10–April 27, 2025.
ELIGIBILITY AND SUBMISSION
- This curated exhibition is presented in collaboration with MoMA’s Department of Learning and Engagement and NYCATA. It is open to all New York City Department of Education teachers working in 2D, 3D, and moving image media.
- Applicants are invited to submit up to three original works for consideration and are asked to organize their three work samples and descriptions into a single PDF in order to be considered.
- All applicants must complete their submission via Submittable by midnight on February 6, 2025, in order to be considered.
NOTE: Loan forms will be provided to selected artists.
ARTWORK GUIDELINES
Due to space constraints
- Wall-hung/2D works should be no larger than 30 in. wide and 6 in. deep and fit below the ceiling height of 8 ft. 5 in. All works must be ready to hang and include any necessary hanging devices. Works will not be hung if frames are broken, hanging wires are missing, or art is not framed in a professional manner.
- Sculpture/3D works should be no larger than 20 in. wide x 20 in. long. Please note that works will be displayed on pedestals without plexi covers.
- Moving Image works should be a maximum of 10 min. long. Formats accepted are MP4 and MOV files. Applicants will be allowed to submit up to three files of up to three min. each.
NOTE: Unfortunately we cannot accommodate works that require special installation.
NOTIFICATION
If selected, artists will be notified by email of work/s chosen.
Selected artists will be required to complete a loan agreement which will govern the loan of their work/s to MoMA for inclusion in the show, including, but not limited to, confirming details of the work/s, acknowledging that MoMA will not insurer the work/s or be liable to damage ( except that in the event of significant damage or loss, the Museum may reimburse the cost of materials), and granting MoMA permission to photograph the work/s and use the photographs for mission-related purposes across various formats in connection with The Art of the Educator show.
ARTWORK DELIVERY AND PICKUP
- Artwork must be brought in-person to The Museum of Modern Art’s Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54th Street, New York , NY, 10019.
- Artwork must be brought in-person on February 27 or 28. Times TBD.
- Details for any selected media/moving image works will be shared individually following receipt of the submission form.
- At the conclusion of the show, works will be available for pick up on May 1 and May 2.
- Artists acknowledge that the Museum may dispose of artwork as it chooses in the event that you fail to remove it by May 2.
